#Occupylekkitollgate: Popular Comedian Mr Macaroni has been arrested at the #occupylekkitollgate during the planned protest today.
The plan to #occupylekkitollgate started after the controversial ruling of the Lagos Judicial panel of inquiry to open the Lekki Toll Gate even when the panel has not come out with any substantial reports.
About fifteen hours to the scheduled #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest, Rinu Oduala, youth representative on the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate, has stepped down from the panel.
Her argument was that the government was using the panel for ‘performative actions’.
Disclosing this on her twitter handle, Rinu opined that: “My stand on the reopening of the toll gate is clear; the state government & the private organisation operating the toll have not been cleared of collusion with elements allegedly deployed by the federal government to target citizens on home soil during a time of peace, without provocation….
The Federal government and security agencies were quick to respond saying that the protesters would be met by heavy security forces.
Dr. Kemi Olunloyo tweeted,
Returned home from the scene of #LekkiMassacre with my Uber. Met many media colleagues & police that knew me. #Lekkitollgate protest #OccupyLekkiTollGate has been thwarted by @PoliceNG, Activists arrested, Journalists harassed. The constitution is INVALID ‼️No Rights.
I wonder most times, the amount of urgency and deploy of security agencies to anything that seem like a protest through the country Nigeria.
Daily we receive reports of citizens being killed day and night, properties destroyed by armed bandits and nothing is done about it, at least without the same sense of urgency.
A lot of farmers recorded great loss in the previous farming season because of herders crisis as herdsmen would go through their farms with their cows eating and destroying labor, investment of months, weeks and days.
It’s the 13th of February, the day for the planned #occupylekkitollgate protest, and a medium to remind the global community of the Lekki massacre on the 20th of October 2020, a day many will never forget. A day many did not know would be their last as a young man identified as Okechukwu said “Nigeria won’t end me” only to be found dead some hours later.
Hours before the protest we see lot of security presence with heavy armoury, black maria, teargas at the toll gate where the #occupylekkitollgate protest was to hold.
